Stuff about us and our camp
Firstly, the camp has been here for over 80 years. A group of local businessmen got together in 1935 and had an idea to build a camp "because it might make some money for the people of Nelson". An incorporated society was formed and to this day still meets every month with a representative from the camp to discuss the camp. The land and buildings are leased from the Nelson City Council by the Incorporated Society. Tahuna Beach Holiday Park is the biggest camp in the southern hemisphere. Through the year we generally have around 25 workers; office staff, cleaners, grounds & maintenance. Over summer we employ students to help out in all areas of the camp plus in the mini golf and go cart area. Most the the all year staff have been employed at the camp for many years. There is a very low staff turnover. We hope you can come and stay with us sometime and enjoy all the lovely things Nelson and surrounds has to offer.
Going Greener and finally winning the prize
Yes we like awards. Come and see our 'Wall of Fame' with our award and certificates.
Our entry into HAPNZ this year was successful. We won the Innovation Award for our heatpump system which resulted in energy savings and a reduction in emissions. This is a fantastic award for our Park to win. We have previously placed well in the finals at both HAPNZ and in the big business section of Nelson Business Awards but this is our first really big WIN. We are very proud and hope you are too.
We are a big Holiday Park and are very conscious of any inpact we may have on our environment. Our heatpump system replaces a coal boiler which belched out coal dust and emmissions over our Park for many years.
Autumn 2012
So far we are having a brilliant autumn here in Nelson. Crisp mornings followed by days with temperatures around 20 degrees. No wind. Clear blue skies. Perfect for beach walking and maybe a swim for the hardy. Quite a few schnapper and kahawai around within close distance to the shore. Over Easter people were pulling in lots of fish at Rabbitt Island using surfcasters. A few kontikis around who are getting quite a few lovely sized schnapper. The rivers have good flow at present. Nelson is a lovely place to visit with the family. Lots of things to do that are free. See you soon. Thanks for looking at our website.
